Introducing MOments – a collaboration from the LIGHT.ART photography NFT community and Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group dips its toes into the metaverse, giving savvy travelers a new opportunity to collect art and enriching the physical travel experience with the digital

Lucerne, Switzerland, December 7, 2022Light.art and Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern have teamed up to launch MOments, a curated selection of digital photographs that showcase Switzerland’s iconic landscapes. They are now on view at the hotel’s on-site gallery.

Guests will play a key role in the curation process by voting for their favorite images, which will become the first official photography collection of Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern and eventually be released for sale in limited print and digital (NFT) editions.

With this timely collaboration, Mandarin Oriental becomes the latest corporate to embrace the world of NFTs by giving discerning travelers a chance to collect the 21st century’s ultimate store of culture: fine art as digital assets. It is the hotel group’s first foray into NFTs, with the possibility of more to follow across other locations—and a testament to the long-term potential of digital assets, despite the current crypto bear market.

“We wanted to get started by utilizing very attractive art and photography, which is a good draw and the core competence of our partner Light.art,” says Sjoerd Brouwer, hotel manager at Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern.

“We selected Lucerne because it’s a new property with tremendous natural beauty; guests are mostly there for leisure and have time to explore; and the property has space well suited for the exhibit.”

“Many guests come with a natural curiosity to gather new experiences and learn something new; this is where Light.art comes in perfectly,” adds Sjoerd. Alongside the gallery viewing experience, guests will be able to learn more about the NFT space through digital content.

Moments introduces the idea that owning art is the best way to remember your travels and that digital innovation enhances the traditional travel experience. Photography NFTs are not only souvenirs with intrinsic value and an emotional connection to a place but also easily shareable with friends and family across social media.

“NFTs open up so many possibilities for the way we experience and relate to places that we visit and the new cultures and people we meet,” says Marcos Siqueira, the Hong Kong-based founder of Light.art. “We are delighted to pair up with a forward-thinking partner like Mandarin Oriental to develop meaningful real-life experiences powered by NFTs.

”The exhibition opens at Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern, on November 28, 2022 and will run for about two months with a rotating set of images. The initial Light.art photographers contributing to MOments include Albert Dros, Angel Fuchs, Fabio Antenore, Marco Grassi, and Jabi Sanz. They are respected in both the NFT and traditional photography communities and have worked with leading brands and media outlets across the world.
