About the artist

Tony Hewitt G.M. Photog.1Pb, FAIPP, Hon. FAIPP, FNZIPP, G.M.WPPI

"I am a Witness to the Dance between the Water and the Light!"

''Hidden in plain sight – the familiar waits to be re-discovered. What we ‘see’ often goes far beyond what lays before us. Echoes of our experiences, and recognition of the 'real' & 'perceived' within the landscape, resonate within us, releasing instinctive responses and emotional stirring, often drawing us into a moment past or perhaps a moment future? Color, Texture, Tone & Form form the language by which we express our narratives.”

Australian photographic artist Tony Hewitt shares a passion for the unseen, deriving inspiration from a diversity of observed locations including coastal, and inland salt-lake regions. His work is often simultaneously viewed as both 'real' & 'interpretive, while individually offering both literal & abstract expressions of the landscape as seen from uncommon viewpoints. Light, liquid & timing, conspire to reveal new perspectives, each born of coincidence and destined to reveal itself, though fleetingly, as further evidence of the transient nature of the world around us.

Tony was recognized as the Australian Professional Photographer of the Year in 2013, the overall Photographer of the Year 2020 at the Societies of Photographers print awards in the UK and received the ‘Bill Hurter Award’ for the highest aggregate submission at WPPI (USA) 2021. He has exhibited both within Australia and Overseas since 1995, including solo exhibitions, ‘Occuli‘, 'Continuum’, ‘Transience’, and ‘Evapor8’. Tony also collaborated in numerous exhibitions include the Pilbara Project, and ‘2016’ Shark Bay. In 2017 Tony undertook the Girt by Sea Project and exhibition, one of the most ambitious fine-art photography projects ever undertaken in Australia.

Tony lives in Perth with his family, loves the beach, travel, and enjoys a good red wine.
