About the artist
My photography journey started when I was a young teenager growing up in Brazil. I fell in love with photography when I came across the work of Sebastião Salgado and picked up a camera for the first time in 1993. From the very beginning, my passion has been mostly documentary photography. As the years went by, my vision and curiosity for photography kept growing.
In 1997, I was invited to perform Capoeira in New York. I had been training in this form of Afro-Brazilian martial art since 1993. After the performance, I decided to stay and immerse myself in American culture. Naturally, my life as an artist unfolded there.
I finished high school and attended college for graphic design while teaching Capoeira for a living. After graduating college, I worked as a freelance designer for 6 years before deciding to focus more of my time on studio photography. That was the beginning of my career in the fashion industry. My curiosity and friendly approach always opened up new doors for me and not long after, I started working as an international music photographer. I got to work closely with bands such as Duran Duran, Kiesza Diplo, Skrillex, and Betty Who.
